Livia Jurry
ComDance Dip. Modern Jazz/ Contemporary Teacher
Livia's dance journey began at Capa, where her passion flourished. Training in all genres of dance Livia completed all levels of CSTD Jazz exams and continued her training, completing her teaching certificate in Modern Jazz. Also having a passion for Contemporary dance Livia immersed herself in the rigorous International Baccalaureate Dance Program, delving into the works of pioneers like Merce Cunningham, Isadora Duncan, and Martha Graham, which honed her foundational skills. She also completed a thesis on the evolution of modern to new-age Contemporary dance.
Accepted into various company programs, she collaborated with esteemed Contemporary dancers from Australasian Dance Collective (ADC) and Merge Dance Collective.
Livia, more recently has had the opportunity to work with Contemporary and Ballet creators from around the world, including Cuba, America, and Italy. Her acceptance into the NUDO dance company founded by Yasim Coronado Veranes, provided a platform to delve into various Contemporary movements, with a focus on Afro-Cuban roots. Livia and NUDO secured grants with Home of the Arts (HOTA) and Brisbane Multicultural Arts, leading to the creation of video projects and two shows, one of which was titled 'Granted.' This hour-long production explored the migrant journey to Australia, incorporating elements of modern Contemporary, Afro-Cuban Contemporary, and current Contemporary dance styles, with some of Livia's own works being piloted.
Livia has completed her ComDance teaching Diploma in Modern Jazz, as well as studying an honors Nutrition and Dietetics Degree.
